Educational Crafts

Crafts are a great way to teach kids without them even knowing they are learning. It also creates a great hands on experience so they actually remember what they learn, and it doesn’t have to be super hard to put together.

I have a variety of crafts and ideas that you can use for education and learning. They come in all different sizes and subjects. I love teaching my kids through crafts and watching them learn. These are great crafts to do and have before your little one enters kindergarten and during preschool!

Science

There are so many fun things you can do with science, almost everything is science. Here are 9 science projects that you can do with items that you already have in your house. Learning Math and Numbers

One great way to learn math is by creating a homemade Grocery Store. This activity requires a little more prep work, but it is great for learning money, addition, subtraction, and life skills. My kids played this for hours, and kids smaller than 5 enjoy this as well, even if they don’t get the math! I have a worksheet for this activity which includes fake money!

Teach your kids how to count with this Painting Caterpillar, it also helps with learning colors. It’s a simple painting activity that only uses your fingers. You can download my template for them as well.

Another great counting activity is Marshmallow Numbers. You can use my FREE templates, or make your own. You don’t have to use marshmallows, you can use anything small like peanuts, raisins, or M&Ms. It’s also a treat! If your 5 year old is already well acquainted with numbers, you could do the higher numbers, or start adding small numbers.

Learning Letters and the Alphabet

Alphabet learning blocks not only teach you letters, but they teach you phonics. Learn what words start with what letters, with pictures to help. This is also a great cutting and gluing activity!

Canvas Letters are a great craft that can easily be displayed after you’re done. Buy a nice little canvas for your little one to paint. If you put tape on it and then paint, you can make different letters. We like to do the first letter of our name so you can hang them in your room.

Color by letters is a fun coloring or painting activity to help kids learn letters. It’s like a color by number, but they have to find the right letters instead. I have a fun template you can download.

Numbers, Letters, and Everything in Between

Q-tip painting is a fun painting activity that is easier for clean up and makes things a little more creative. This activity can be done with shapes, numbers, letters, counting, and designs.

Get messy with this Shaving cream activity. It’s super easy to prep this activity, and can be pretty well contained. The kids have so much fun. Let them be creative, but you could also tell them to do certain letters, numbers, shapes, math problems, alphabet, or anything they might be learning!

If your 5 year old loves cars, they will love Toddler Car Art. It certainly is an interesting way to paint. This is great for numbers or letters. You can make a letter or number on a piece of paper and have them trace it with paint and a car.

Sidewalk Chalk is another creative way to learn. Go outside and write the alphabet on the sidewalk, or do numbers or a math problem.
