Easy Toddler Counting Activity
I have been trying to get better at teaching my 3 year old numbers, well just “things” in general.
We haven’t been able to do any official preschool with him this year, so I’ve been trying to put more of an effort in to his education.
It can be hard, especially when it takes time, and toddlers can be… aggravating.
We did an activity the other day and it took me about 3 minutes to set up. It took about 10-15 minutes to do. He was fully engaged in the activity, he liked it, and he learned. Win, Win, Win!
I just drew out some quick numbers and circles, pulled out some marshmallows, and BAM, you have a toddler activity. I turned the sheets I used into a digital printable, which you can have for FREE.
I made one with cars because my son is OBSESSED with cars.
Here is how we did the activity.

Preschool Counting Activity

Supplies:
- Preschool Counting Activity Printable
- Marshmallows (You could also do cheerios, chocolate chips, M&Ms, pom poms, stickers, really anything. Although having a yummy treat is very inviting.)
- A Toddler

Instructions and tips:
Using the printable, or your homemade papers, ask your toddler to place the number of marshmallows (or whatever object you are using) in the circle with the corresponding number.

If you are using my sheets, I did some pages harder than others. There are circles that don’t have the mini circles, and I also have ones that just have the words. If they can learn to recognize the word, that’s awesome.
Alternative Learning Opportunities:
You don’t just have to use these sheets to place objects in the circles. Here are some other things you can do with them:
1.You could have them color the circles, counting along with it. Painting would also be another option.
2. You could also coordinate the colors and the numbers.
3. Count with them. You move them and they count. Or, count them out ahead of time and place them in piles. Have your toddler locate the number with the corresponding pile.
4. If you’re making your own sheets, make different shapes to put the numbers in. Have them tell you the shape and the number.
I feel like my son really learned from this. We have done it a few times and I feel like he’s already counting better. It’s crazy how quickly little people absorb information!
