Easter Egg Candy

There are two holidays out of the year that accumulates tons and tons of candy in our house: Halloween and Easter.

I mean, the kids get plenty of candy for their birthdays, Christmas, and Valentine’s day, but for some reason, there are buckets and buckets at Halloween and Easter. It takes us months to get rid of it.

I am all for candy! I am definitely not a withhold-sugar-from-my-kids type of mom. If I did that, would have to stop eating as much sugar, and I can’t have that.

But after a couple of weeks, my kids (and my husband…let’s be honest) expect to have candy after every meal, or a couple of pieces of sugar a day. I’m paranoid about childhood diabetes, so I do try to have a sugar balance. AND, I start to go to that bucket when I’m having any type of emotion to justify shoving chocolate down my gullet.

Then, my husband and I just start eating it so it will disappear! #justified!

Last year, my son would just point to the bucket (we keep it on top of the fridge) and say “I’m hungry up there!”

You see, I just can’t have buckets of candy in my house, and I’m sure you feel the same.

So, last Easter we decided to look at alternatives to Easter Egg fillers other than loads of candy.

I mean, there is still candy on this list, but there are tons of other things you can use that kids love and are practical.

Candy for Easter Eggs

Let’s start with candy because it’s the obvious one. Certain candies are better than others. There are good candies that fit well into Easter eggs and won’t add up to a ton of candy. If you’re feeling risky, you could just do 1 piece per egg. You could also combine 1 piece of candy with something else.

Jelly beans

Sixlets

M&Ms

Milk Duds

Bubble Gum or Gum

Whoppers

Unwrapped candies(and wrapped)

Robin eggs or Cadbury eggs (staying in the Easter spirit)

Food for Easter Egg Fillers

Other food that is not candy. These foods fit well into Easter Eggs and they can eat all they can eat (to a point).

Fruit Pearls

Oyster Crackers

Gripz

Pretzels

Goldfish

Trail mix

Grapes

Fruit snacks

Teddy Grahams

Cereal (my kids love fruit loops or cocoa puffs, and they don’t get them that often, so they would love this!)

Animal Crackers

Nuts

Cheez-Its

Raisins

Popcorn

Ritz Sandwiches

The list could go on. These are just a few things my kids LOVE.

Cheap Easter Egg Stuffers – Knick-Knacks

These stuffers are just cheap. Almost too cheap, but if you’re just looking for the wow factor and you can throw it away (casually) later, then these are good. They’re also good if you’re doing a big hunt with lots of people. These are like toys from Mcdonald’s: forgettable and short-lived.

Dollar Store party bags

If you go to the dollar store party section they have tons of Knick-knacks you can choose from especially in the party favors. They’re usually cheap plastic things like yo-yos, whistles, tops, boxes of stickers, hand slappers, beads, pencils, party blowers, etc… Here is an example from Amazon.

Poppers

Toys

Stickers– There are all kinds of stickers:

Fingernail stickers

Tattoos

Glow in the dark stickers or stars

Stickers are also a great thing to combine with another toy or candy. You could also buy a big sheet of them and cut the sheet up into about 2 stickers each.

Easter Egg Stuffers

Bouncy balls

Squishies (Did you know you can make your own squishies, but they aren’t for Easter egg stuffers, that’s for another day)
