Valentine’s Day Craft

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. Since my daughter is not in school this year (we are homeschooling), I wanted to make sure I made it special for her. She always loved Valentine’s Day at school. Each year she would write customized Valentines. She would make sure to write a letter to each one of her classmates. She would remember details about their lives that she could include in her letter. I was so impressed by her. She is a natural friend and loves to make people happy.

I have a fun thing planned for the week of Valentine’s day. If you need ideas, you can check out my post: Valentine’s Day gift ideas for your kids. One of the things I wanted to do was make some crafts to hang up as our Valentine’s Day decorations. My daughter loves to decorate, and loves making them herself even more!

I have always liked the idea of making a sun catcher, but a lot of crafts out there seemed a little complicated. However, this one is not, and it was a huge hit. I really enjoyed it, and would love to make more!

Now, only if we could get the sun to come out!

Here’s how we did it!

Supplies:

Construction Paper (with your choice of color)
Scissors
Tissue paper (with your choice of colors)
Glue
Tape
Glitter (optional)

Instructions:

First, do some prep work by cutting out small squares from your tissue paper. The size really doesn’t matter, but I wouldn’t make them too small. I let the kids help me with this part.

Next, draw a heart on your paper the size you want it. I think bigger is better, but it is up to you.

Then, cut out your heart.

Fold your heart in half 2-3 times.

Open your heart, and you should have different shapes cut out from your heart.

Lastly, on the backside of your heart, glue around each cut-out shape and place the tissue paper on it so that it covers the hole. You can do more than one, you just want to cover the hole.

It should look like this on the other side.

With your tape, hang it up on your window and watch the sun shine through the tissue paper.
