Escape rooms are the new best thing! I would have to agree. They are super fun. If you haven’t physically been to an escape room, you should go. They might even have family escape rooms too.

However, young kids definitely wouldn’t have a fun time at an escape room because they probably couldn’t contribute much. This is why I decided to start creating fun escape rooms for kids. Did you know you could do an escape room in your home? And even on your computer? They make great party and team games.

In this article I am sharing the printable Bible-based escape room game that I created. More specifically it is New Testament-based (with hopes of an Old Testament coming soon). I even created two different versions:

These are perfect for Sunday School or Bible School fun.

What Is a Printable Escape Room?

A printable escape room is a fun activity with riddles and problems that you have to solve in order to “escape the room”. Usually, when you do an escape room you have a room with clues hidden. A printable escape room is all done on paper. You print it out and place the clues around the room. Then, the people playing have to solve all the clues before they win, or “escape the room”.

Not only is this escape room printable, but it is also digital. This means you can complete it all on a computer if you want to. You start the escape room and clues are generated one at a time. You can’t go to the next clue until you solve the clue you’re on. It’s all using Google Forms, which is a free platform and anyone can operate it.

How Do You Make Escape Room Games Bible Based?

All of the clues in this escape room have to do with the New Testament. It would help to know the Bible, but not necessary to complete the clues.

What’s Included In This Christian Escape Room Game?

Since it is a printable, it is all digital. Once you receive the PDF digital download you can either choose to print it out or use the digital version. You will receive both the PDF and the digital version which is all done on Google Forms. Instructions will be included on how to do both.

Instructions on how to solve each clue are also included. You will receive the answers, a recording sheet for participants to use if they choose, 10 different clues, as well as a scenario to set up the scene, and a congratulations page. You can decide if the winning team gets a prize!

The digital version includes the same as listed above, but you’ll also get a link to copy the Google forms onto your own computer.

How To Play the Bible Based Escape Room

There are a few different ways to play.

  • Print out all the slides and the recording sheet (without the answers). Depending on how many children you have, you can break them up into groups, individuals, or one big team.
  • You can run the activity in 3 ways:
    1. You can give them all the clues up front and have them record their answers on the recording sheet and then give them all to you at the end.
    2. You can give them one clue at a time. They have to give you their answer before you give them their next clue.
    3. You can tape them up around the room or house and have them record their answers on their recording sheet and give them to you at the end. They can do them out of order if doing it this way, the clues are not sequential.
  • Before starting the activity, read the Escape Room situation to get them excited about the activity.

**Optional: Set a timer for 25-30 minutes.

Ask them not to ruin the activity for others by revealing the codes to them before they have a chance to figure it out.

**Optional: Let them use a Bible for one of the questions.

Who Can Play?

It depends on which one you choose and the ages you will be doing it for. All boys and girls ages 8-17 can participate, but you’ll want to buy the older one for the older kids or else it will be too easy.

These escape rooms are best for Sunday school lessons, seminary, Bible school, a Christian-based school, or even Easter. It can also be fun as a family game night or activity night.

What Lessons Will Kids Learn?

This escape room is meant to be a fun interactive way to learn about Christ. It is also a great addition to a lesson. While the kids may not walk away having learned a new concept, they will recognize scripture, cultural references, and Christ’s character.

Things might stand out to them that they haven’t noticed before, and maybe they’ll memorize part of scripture. There is a common scripture used that they might need their Bible for if they don’t have it memorized, so they can practice using their Bible. This game is a perfect and fun way to introduce others to God.
