Toilet Paper Roll Flowers

There are SOOO many things you can do with toilet paper rolls, so I advise saving them ALL. You never know when you can throw a quick craft together with some toilet paper rolls. I recommend it as one of the main things in your kid’s craft box. Although, if you didn’t know, you can also buy them on Amazon. No need to wait for everyone to wipe their butts! 🙂

I think it’s fun to make so many creative things from such a normal, plain object. We decided to make toilet paper roll flowers one day. I wanted them to be able to stick in the ground and kind of move. These more like bounce, haha. They were super easy and fun to make. The kids enjoyed making and playing with them.

Here’s how we did it.

Supplies:

Toilet Paper Rolls (at least 1 per flower)
Paint
Paint Brushes
Scissors
2 Pipe Cleaners (per flower) Any color will do, but this will be the center of your flower and the stem, so whatever colors you want for those.
Hot glue gun with hot glue

Instructions:

First, paint the toilet paper rolls however you like. I instructed my kids that if they painted vertically then all the colors would be on every petal. (if that makes sense) So if you want to do a rainbow, you should probably paint the colors up and down so they appear on all the flower’s petals.

Wait for the paint to dry, then move onto to the next step.

After the paint dries, cut the toilet paper roll into strips as wide or as narrow as you like. We did about 1/2 an inch and 1 toilet paper roll made 7-8 petals.

Next, take the pipe cleaner you are using for the center of the flower. I did yellow. Roll it up so that it’s in a circle.

Using a hot glue gun, glue the petals together around the rolled up pipe cleaner. I glued them to each other and the pipe cleaner as I went.

Lastly, use the remaining pipe cleaner for the stem by wrapping it around one of the petals of your flowers near the center. I didn’t want a long stem so I wrapped it back onto itself to make it shorter, plus it bounces better.

Now you have a cheap, but very cute bouncy flower.

What to do with the flower

The kids had a lot of fun just holding their flowers in their hands and watching them bounce. Here are a few other things you can do with them:

  • Put them outside in the dirt and watch the wind bounce them. We did this too, and it was fun. Make sure you don’t bury it too deep and you might need to reinforce it with a second pipe cleaner for strength.
  • “Plant” it in a cup with some dirt or rice in your house and set it on the counter. The kids will be so proud of their flower.
  • Wear it as a bracelet. If you loop it back onto itself, then you can put it over your wrist like a bracelet and watch it bounce.

I hope you had as much fun making these toilet paper roll flowers as I did!
