The story of Ruth has always been one of my favorite stories in the Bible to teach. It’s full of kindness, loyalty, hard work, and trusting God—even when life doesn’t go the way we planned. While Ruth’s story is fairly short, it teaches some really big lessons that children can understand and apply to their own lives.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that kids remember Bible stories so much better when they can actually do something with them. That’s why I love using hands-on Bible crafts and activities. Whether it’s building, coloring, spinning, or acting out the story, these simple activities help children connect with God’s Word in a way that’s fun and memorable.

Whether you’re teaching in Sunday School, homeschooling, planning a VBS lesson, or simply looking for a meaningful family activity, these Ruth crafts are easy to prepare and enjoyable for kids of many different ages.

Why Teach the Story of Ruth?

Ruth’s story is much more than a story about harvesting wheat. It’s about choosing kindness, remaining loyal, trusting God during difficult seasons, and seeing how God can use ordinary people in extraordinary ways.

Children can learn that:

  • God is always with us.
  • Kindness matters.
  • We can be faithful even when life is hard.
  • God provides for our needs.
  • God has a plan for every life.

Ruth Crafts and Activities

These fun and simple crafts are perfect for teaching the story of Ruth.

Ruth Story Spinner

The Ruth Story Spinner helps children review the story from beginning to end. Kids simply spin the arrow to land on different parts of Ruth’s journey and retell what happened. It’s a fun review activity for Sunday School lessons, Bible study, or family devotions.

Ruth Door Hanger

Children can color their own Ruth-themed door hanger and display it on their bedroom door. Every time they see it, they’ll be reminded of Ruth’s faithfulness and God’s loving plan for her life.

Ruth Wheat Basket Craft

One of the most memorable parts of Ruth’s story is when she gathered leftover grain in Boaz’s fields to help provide for Naomi. This wheat basket craft gives children a visual reminder of God’s provision while helping them remember Ruth’s hard work and willingness to serve others.

Ruth Finger Puppets

Kids love acting out Bible stories, and finger puppets make storytelling even more exciting. The Ruth finger puppets include the main characters from the story so children can retell each event in their own words. Puppet play is also a wonderful way to build confidence while reinforcing what they’ve learned.

Ruth Diorama

The Ruth Diorama brings the story to life in three dimensions. Children color, cut, and assemble the scene to create a display they can proudly keep long after the lesson is finished. It’s a fun project that also helps them remember the important events in Ruth’s story.

Ruth Activity Page

This activity page provides an extra opportunity for children to review the story while doing fun activities. It’s a great tool to use to help kids keep their hands busy while you teach the lesson.

Women of the Bible Bookmarks

These printable bookmarks introduce children to twelve inspiring women from the Bible while encouraging them to spend more time reading God’s Word. Ruth is included in those inspiring women.

Tips for Teaching the Story of Ruth

As you work through these activities, encourage children to ask questions and think about how Ruth’s story relates to their own lives. Instead of simply telling the story, pause to ask things like:

  • How did Ruth show kindness?
  • Why did Ruth stay with Naomi?
  • How did God provide for Ruth and Naomi?
  • What can we learn from Boaz?
  • How can we show loyalty and kindness to others this week?

These simple conversations often become the most meaningful part of the lesson.
