What are Pocket Prayers?

Pocket Prayers are small prayer cards tucked inside a handmade paper pocket. Each card can include a prayer, scripture, reminder, or something someone wants to pray about. They’re a simple way to help kids remember to pray throughout the day and can also encourage thoughtful conversations about faith and gratitude. Once completed, the pockets can be kept in a backpack, scripture case, nightstand, or even displayed in a bedroom.

How to Make Pocket Prayers Craft

This craft is simple to put together and works well for a wide range of ages. Younger kids may need a little help cutting the pocket slit, while older kids can complete most of the project independently. Once assembled, the pockets become a sweet keepsake kids can continue using long after craft time is over.

Materials

  • Template
  • Colors
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Box Cutter (optional)

Instructions

  • Coloring the background pocket is optional. Only color it if you want the backside of your pocket colorful.

  • Carefully cut out all the pieces.
  • Then on the front pocket, cut a slit in the top section using the long dashed lines as a guide. You can use scissors or a box cutter. Make sure not to cut all the way to the edge of the pocket. You just want a slit.

  • Next, glue the background pocket to the back of your colored pocket. Apply glue only along the edges. You want to be able to create a pocket.

  • Cut off any excess around the pocket.
  • Once the glue is completely dry, tuck your prayers into the pocket and enjoy!
