Teaching kids to trust God—even when they don’t understand His plan—is one of the most powerful lessons we can share. The story of Abraham and Isaac is a beautiful (and emotional) picture of obedience, faith, and God’s ultimate plan of love and sacrifice. Here’s a simple, hands-on Bible lesson you can use with kids to bring this story to life.
Bible Story Lesson: Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 22)
God gave Abraham a big promise—that he would become the father of many nations. But that promise seemed almost impossible for years. When Abraham and Sarah finally had Isaac, it felt like a miracle.
But then, God asked Abraham to do something truly hard: offer Isaac as a sacrifice. Even though Abraham didn’t understand, he trusted God completely. And in the end, God provided a ram instead. Abraham’s faith was tested, and God proved again that He keeps His promises.

Lesson Plan Outline
1. Opening (5–7 minutes)
Welcome & Prayer
-
Greet the children, briefly introduce the lesson, and open with a short prayer.
-
Ask: “Have you ever had to trust someone even though you didn’t know what would happen?”
2. Bible Story Time (8–10 minutes)
Scripture Reading / Storytelling:
-
Read or paraphrase Genesis 22:1–18 in kid-friendly language.
-
Emphasize that Abraham listened to God, obeyed even though it was hard, and trusted that God would provide.
Key Verse: “God will provide.” – Genesis 22:8
3. Object Lesson (5–7 minutes)
“Trust Fall” with a Twist
You’ll Need:
-
A blindfold
-
A clear, safe space
-
A sturdy chair
What to Do:
Have one child stand on the chair and wear the blindfold. Stand behind them and say, “I promise I’ll catch you. Will you trust me?” Let them fall back gently into your arms.

Then ask:
-
“Was it easy or hard to trust?”
-
“How would you feel if you didn’t know I’d catch you?”
Connect It to the Story:
Just like the trust fall, Abraham didn’t know how things would turn out. But he chose to trust God anyway—and God provided. Sometimes we don’t see the whole plan, but we can trust that God sees the end from the beginning.
4. Craft or Activity (7-10 minutes)
Craft or Coloring Activity
Help kids remember this powerful story with a printable activity page!

This resource is perfect for Sunday School, homeschool lessons, or quiet-time activities at home.
5. Discussion & Application (5 minutes)
Ask the kids:
-
Why do you think Abraham obeyed, even though it was hard?
-
What are some ways you can trust God this week?
-
Have you ever had to do something even though you didn’t understand why?
Remind them: God always keeps His promises—even when it’s not easy to see how. And just like God provided a ram for Abraham, He provides what we need too.
Big Idea: We can trust God because He always keeps His promises.
6. Closing Prayer & Take-Home Challenge (3–5 minutes)
-
Pray: Thank God for being trustworthy and for always providing.
-
Encourage kids to share the story with their family or tell about a time they trusted God.
Trusting in God
Teaching kids to trust God can feel like a big task, but the story of Abraham and Isaac offers a clear and powerful example. Through simple object lessons, hands-on activities, and honest conversations, children can begin to understand that God is always faithful—even when life doesn’t make sense. As they grow in faith, they’ll remember that just like Abraham, they can trust God with their hearts, their questions, and their future.
